I received my Tiger I just this past week. Actually, this is the second one I have had the pleasure of owning from Heng Long. The first was abysmal. This latest version, addresses many of the issues plaguing the first version. I received the gray painted version. The tank itself, worked straight from the box. The smoke unit worked nicely and the parts needed to complete the tank went on the superstructure very well. The first thing I noticed was how rich the gray color looked as opposed to the earlier version. Which appeared rather lightly painted. Also, on the original version, the sprocket drive wheels and idler wheels were painted silver. Which gave the tank a toy like appearance. Well, this latest version addressed that. Everything is darker gray including the Sprocket wheels and idler wheels. The tank looks as if it just rolled off the assembly line in Germany. Looks real nice. The second thing they fixed was, the smoke unit. In the first version, many people, including myself, complained that the unit would work for a few minutes and quit soon there after. Never to work again. The smoke unit in the updated Tiger addressed this. It puts out real nice scaled smoke. Still, one needs to be ever so careful about filling these smoke units with too much smoke fluid. It will cause the smoke unit to become inoperative. Place only a few drops at a time in the clear plastic lines located within the exhaust manifolds. You will see them just under the actual simulated exhaust pipes. Go slow and never add too much. Once the smoke seems less, add more. The other thing addressed was the idea of allowing the tank owner to add the various equipment to the tank. Like cables and tools used by the Tiger crews. This was nice because it allows one to feel as though they were building a model. Nice touch. Though go slow when pressing these parts into their assigned holes. The tank moves okay, but with plastic tracks, it can be somewhat rough on carpet. Better to run this tank on a smooth surface. Like a wooden floor or concrete floor. At least until, the tracks are somewhat broken in. The tank commander is still unpainted, but he looks more refined and is ready for painting. There are two numbers and several German crosses if you want to dress your tank up. I left mine off. The tank comes with a charger, Ni Cad battery, A radio transmitter. An antenna for the tank to receive the signal and smoke oil. It also comes with BB pellets forshooting the cannon. This is basically the same tank, but with refinements made. Just enough to point the tank in the right direction as far as detail and craftsmanship. The tanks transmitter requires 8 AA batteries. There are several functions. Forward and reverse. Left or right. Turret rotates roughly 340 degrees and depresses up/down a few degrees. One feature about the new and improved version is the tanks speed is now controllable from the right joy stick. Just a slight nudge up will start the tank going, but it takes getting used to since the controller is not hobby grade and one must use a little finesse when moving the tank in realistic fashion. The previous version had two speeds. Fast and stop! This new version is far better. Again, a nice touch. As for quality. These are made of plastic and require absolute care. Plenty of spare parts on the web. Including upgrades. Like all metal sprockets and idler wheels as well as all metal tracks. New more powerful motors also are available. Personally, I bought the tank for looks and static, but occasionally start her up to impress others with the smoke unit exhaust feature. One can, with superior hobby skills turn this otherwise average tank into a real nice battle tank. There are many add on parts available for this and other Heng Long RC tanks. Presently, I have three Heng Long RC tanks. I collect German armor and in particular, 1/16 and 1/18as well as 1/6 scale German Armor. This particular Heng Long tank is done very nicely and with a little TLC this RC model can last a very long time. I recommend this RC tank for anyone interested in getting into RC tanks. The size and dimensions make it an easy to deal with RC model. Capable of being upgraded or simply as a starter RC model. The prices vary but generally speaking one should not pay more than $120 US dollars for this particular version. There are all metal versions available, but they will cost quite a bit more depending on seller. I have seen this tank upgraded and re sold for thousands of dollars. Be aware of scammers. If in doubt, move on and find another seller. Never settle for something on a whim! I might add the tank does have opening and closing hatches and suspension. Again, it is plastic and with care is capable of lasting a very long time. The one thing I really like about this particular version of this Tiger I is the color. I like gray allot. In fact, Heng Long pretty much nailed this one on the nose. Give or take a few shades one way or another, but as RC model tanks go, this one is a winner in my book. Especially since making improvements from the first version. 5 stars except durability and that was only because of it being made of plastic. Good Luck!
